Glazed Stoneware

Approx 35cm x 26cm

This ceramic vase is inspired by the myth of Persephone and her abduction from Hades to the underworld. The myth often connected to the sacred cave near Eleusis, where Persephone’s journey symbolizes both the transition between life and death and the cyclical nature of the seasons. People still visit the cave to leave pomegranates. This vase represents her acceptance and eventual embrace of the underworld, where she finds wisdom and peace and love in the the dark.

Inside the vase are small seeds that jingle when moved, symbolizing the seeds Persephone brewed in the underworld and the six pomegranate seeds she ate —seeds of transformation and rebirth. Just as she brings spring with her return each year, these seeds represent both the promise of new growth and the quiet, fertile energy of the night that nurtures life. This piece embodies the duality of Persephone’s existence, honoring both the night she embraced and the abundance she later brought forth.
